Summers in Pakistan

Originally published at youth club in summers of 2013.

Being in the luxury of 24/7 air conditioning at Cayman Islands had me believing that I deserve it. And Four years later when I had to endure the Summers of Pakistan again, it saw me sweating and angry and complaining.

The following is an old article I wrote when I was a happy and perhaps much more patient person. Re-reading it was such a reality check for myself first and I thought it has the potential to inspire others to rethink the stereotype of heat and summers as well.

It was written in the background of Ramadan about to set in, and today when we had just bade farewell to Ramadan it still feels relevant. Please read on:

Islam encourages kindness to not only fellow human beings but also other living creatures. We are told:

“Verily, Allah is Kind and He loves kindness” (Muslim)

Kindness should be shown to all of Allah’s creatures specially animals because they can not complain back to you about their problems, they are powerless in many ways.

We encounter animals in our daily lives, sometimes we have pets, oftentimes we deal with astray or wild animals and then we have animals for Baqra Eid.

Bee-Loving. Wonders of Bees.

Bees are amazing creation of Allah and they have been given a distinct honor. Bees receive revelation, a direct command, from Allah.

It is mentioned in the Quran that Allah sends ‘Wahi”  to bees, Wahi is a supernatural Divine Inspiration, something similar to what was being sent to Prophets. The verse said:

And your Lord inspired to the bee, “Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you].” There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. (16:68-69)
