Broccoli Tots.

Blackbird

Broccoli is a healthy vegetable and I tend to stock it sometimes in hope of my toddlers asking for it someday. Recently I had a lot of leftover Brocolli and I wanted to make something delicious and interesting with it. I thought maybe THIS is the time I experiment with broccoli tots.

Ingredients:Brocolli Tots (1)

  • Broccoli bunches (2-3)
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Parmesan cheese-alternate
  • Badia complete spices (alternatively use Chinese salt)
  • 2 tablespoon chopped onion
  • 1 chopped garlic clove
  • 1 egg
  • butter

(if the batter is very dry and is crumbling while you can shaping them, you can use a tablespoon of yogurt or cream in it as well).

I boiled broccoli in salted water till it was really tender, drain away the water carefully and then mashed it using a fork. I didn’t want to totally pulse it so that it could have some texture. Brocolli Tots (2)

Then I added everything else except salt in it. Tasted the batter and then added salt at the end. The reason being cheese already had salt in it.

Mashed and mixed the whole batter really well using my hands so that everything gets incorporated into each other.

Then just made small cutlets, greased the pan with butter and baked for 20 minutes, (turning sides after 10 minutes) at 350 degrees. Brocolli tots (8)

It was so yummy that the whole batch ended even before I could take pictures. 😉

(and I had to make another batch so that I could have proper pictures.)

  1. Brocolli never looked so good… as they look here. And definitely, the cheese ingredient will help a lot in trying to swallow the green. I’ve not really considered cheese with green veggies but even the recipe for this sounds good already. It’s gonna be worth a try.

    • Haha i am glad it looked good to you 🙂

    • My kids kind of like broccoli most of times Alhamdolilah. But my eldest prefer plain boiled broccoli over any other one.
But yes, i second – most of the vegetables are underrated no?
